Castle Cake

Seriously, I need to catch up.  This is from April!  I made Ana a Castle Bday Cake.  Mia's bday party is in a few days and she wants a castle cake too, but she is going to get a Little Mermaid Cake.  I hope it turns out blog worthy.

It doesn't look that big from the pictures, but that was a lot of cake!  Buttercream frosting isn't the best for decorating, but it sure tastes good.  I will have to decide soon what Mia's Mermaid cake will be made out of.

This Cake was super easy to make and did not require a lot of decorating skills at all.  It's two layers of round cake.  My pans are a 10 inch and an 8 inch.  It took two cake mixes to fill them up.  I  just put one on top of the other, covered them in white frosting and added the "accessories".
Accessories:  Paper windows surrounded by candy sprinkles.  Towers:  dip the top of the sugar cone in frosting, dunk in candy sprinkles and stick on top of waffle cone.  Then add a paper flag to the top that is taped to a toothpick.  I think the towers look better if you color the whole sugar cone, but I wasn't that fancy.  Then just push them into the "four corners" of your round cake...lol...  Marshmellows are supposed to look like the bricks on the top of the castle.  Buttercream frosting is not white because of the butter and dark vanilla, but if you want white frosting make it with shortening and artificial vanillin and it will look better, taste like blah, stick to your hips and might give you a heart attack. (I'm just saying...)  I piped the green "hedge" around the bottom, which isn't too hard to figure out if you practice a little first.  Then I just covered the hedge in candy sprinkles that are supposed to look like flowered, but I'm not sure you can even see that much detail in the picture.  Anyways, it's a very easy cake to make, the hardest part would be making the hedge and you can easily use some candy (like green Dots or something) instead of frosting there and it would be cute too.

I was just informed that that is a cool cake and my daughter would like the same for her birthday. Oh why did she have to notice this picture, if I even tried to make a cake like that I know it wouldn't even compare! Prepare for disappointment daughter of mine, lucky for me her birthday is a year away so maybe she'll forget by the time that rolls around:o)
