A beautiful weekend...

...spent indoors :-( Spring is coming and it was beautiful this weekend. Unfortunitally we spent most of it indoors taking care of sick babies. The good news was that we did BBQ with the Hinkles and the girls got to swing on their playset for the first time since last fall.
Here is what is going on with the girls:
I took Amelia to the doctor a few weeks ago because she was sick. She had a very slight fever of about 99 to 100 degrees and she was coughing. She has had a cough off and on for a few months, but just before that visit it was getting bad. She was waking up at night, early in the morning, and too soon from naptime from this cough. Dr. Humphries said it sounded like bronchitis and she was getting a two year old molar as well (probably the cause of the fever, but who knows). I took her back in on Friday so that Dr. Humphries could listen to her chest again because she was still coughing. He ordered a chest x-ray and when that came back it was unclear whether or not it was bronchitis or pnemonia so we had to go back up to the hosiptal for some blood work.
We now call her Amelia Houdini Dunn. She broke out of the little baby x-ray thing twice. Here is a picture of the little trap they use. So why is this baby not screaming and crying like bloody murder the way mine did?

Amelia managed to get her little arms down to her chest between the two clear plastic holders and break free. Finally, I had to wear the heavy lead apron and hold her little hands above her head so she could not get out. This was difficult for me, of course, because who wants to see your baby go through that? Ariana had to have this done (for no good reason except we had a stupid doctor) but I was pregnant with Amelia so Jory had the joy of taking her in. I'm sure you can all picture the tears in Jory's eyes when they emerged from the x-ray room.

The x-rays were no fun for Amelia, but when I had to take her back to the hospital for blood work she kept looking at me, saying to me with her eyes, "Why are we here again?" She didn't like being held down by the nurse and I (at first it was just me, but Houdini requires many hands to hold her down) and when the phlebotomist poked her she held her breath...almost until the needle came back out. She was soooo ticked off, she wouldn't look at any of us when it was over and she turned them down when they both tried to offer her a sticker.

Today we found out the results of some of the blood work. The good news is that she does not have pnemonia. The bad news is that she still has bronchitis. There isn't much they can do for bronchitis, since it is a viral infection and not a bacterial infection, we just have to wait it out. The other part of the blood work is to rule out pertussis and RSV. Hopefully both of those come out negative, but more importantly, I pray she just gets better soon. With all that said, Amelia really is feeling perfectly fine now, aside from having an annoying cough. She is running and playing just like always.

Ariana woke up from her nap on Saturday with a slight fever and she said her tounge hurts (she has a sore throat). Sunday she was a little worse, running a slight fever. This morning she woke up and told Jory, "I feel bad," but now she is talking a lot and sounding much better. I think she's already on the up and up.

Please be praying for our family. We are taking our vitamins and doing what we can to stay germ free. My and Jory's hands are cracked from being washed so many times. I just want this to be done :-) I want my girls to feel better and I really don't want for Jory to get sick either. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

I'm sorry the girls have been sick, that is no fun. Bear had to have one of the x-rays done while we were there when he had croup so bad. I don't think he cried but it has been a whilea and I could have blocked it out. I hope everyone gets better soon. It always amazes me when they run and play while they are still sick. Once they stop you know there's a real problem, at least that's how it is with my kids.
